Credit card debt and tax refunds
by: Gerri

No, your credit card company cannot intercept your tax refund. A credit card is an unsecured debt. If you cannot pay it, it will be turned over to collections. Sometime along the way the collector (or creditor) may decide to take you to court. If they do, and they successfully sue you, then they may be able take action to collect such as garnishing wages, attaching bank accounts etc. (What they can do to collect after they get a judgment is a matter of state law.)

Before it gets to that point, I'd suggest you read our ebook Reduce Debt, Reduce Stress, where you'll learn about your options for dealing with the debt.
